Ms. K is the educational division of Afinius Health. Ms. K is Yvrose Kankkunen, who graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Education from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, and subsequently earned her Master's degree with honors from Barry University, also in Miami, Florida.

After over 20 years of teaching, Yvrose became a licensed Medicare insurance agent because she wanted to continue educating and assisting individuals—particularly seniors. Having supported her mother and many family members through the Medicare process, she understands the needs of seniors. Medicare can be perplexing, and many individuals make expensive errors simply because they lack someone to clarify it for them. She informs her clients, addresses their inquiries, and assists them in selecting the coverage that suits them best, enabling them to proceed with assurance and tranquility.

She is here to assist individuals like you in comparing and enrolling in the Medicare plan that best meets your requirements.

What Is SSBCI? (Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill)

SSBCI is a special benefit that some Medicare Advantage plans may offer to eligible members with certain chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or other qualifying illnesses. Depending on the plan, benefits may include assistance with healthy groceries, over-the-counter products, utilities, transportation, or other services that support your health and daily living. It is important to understand that SSBCI benefits vary significantly by insurance company, specific plan, and service area. Eligibility is not automatic or guaranteed based on a client's chronic conditions. To be eligible for SSBCI, you must meet three criteria: a qualifying chronic condition, a high risk of hospitalization, and the need for intensive care coordination. Contact your Medicare insurance agent to review your options and determine which benefits, if any, you may qualify to receive. Click here to learn more about SSBCI (PDF)

What Is the GLP-1 Bridge Program for Weight Loss?

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program is designed to help eligible Medicare beneficiaries access certain GLP-1 medications for a limited period while Medicare coverage options are being developed or expanded. These medications are commonly used for weight management and other health conditions, depending on the medication and the individual's eligibility. Participation, covered medications, costs, and eligibility requirements depend on the program's current rules, so it's important to confirm whether you qualify before enrolling.

The program runs from July 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027, and the copayment is $50 per month for eligible medications. Your healthcare provider must submit the required prescription and, when requested, prior authorization. To learn more or check your eligibility, visit Medicare.gov/GLP1Bridge.

What Is the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) Letter?

The Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) is a document your Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D prescription drug plan sends you each year, usually in the fall, explaining any changes to your plan for the upcoming year. These changes may include monthly premiums, deductibles, copayments, prescription drug coverage, doctors, hospitals, and covered benefits. It is important to review your ANOC carefully to understand how these changes may affect your healthcare and budget and to determine whether your current plan will continue to meet your needs for the coming year, 2027. If you have not received your ANOC letter, you can access it in your insurance company's portal. If you have not set up your insurance carrier's portal, please do so.

What Is Medicare AEP?

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) takes place every year from October 15 through December 7. During this time, you can review your current Medicare coverage and make changes to your plan for the upcoming year, 2027. You may switch Medicare Advantage plans, change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, return to Original Medicare, or change your Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. Any changes made during AEP generally take effect on January 1. Reviewing your coverage each year is important because plan benefits, costs, provider networks, and prescription drug coverage can change. I am here to help you review your options and find coverage that best meets your needs.

What Is the Medicare Open Enrollment Period (OEP)?

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP) runs from January 1 through March 31 each year and is available to individuals who are already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. During this time, you may switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and enroll in a standalone Part D prescription drug plan. You can make only one change during this period, and the new coverage generally begins the first day of the month after your plan receives your enrollment request. OEP does not apply to individuals enrolled in Original Medicare alone. If you have questions about your current coverage or would like to explore your options, I am happy to help you review your choices.
